Asian Championship of Folklore taking place for the first time in Mongolia
The Asian Championship of Folklore - Asia Folk 2019 is being organized under the auspices of Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh in Ulaanbaatar on June 12-16.
In his opening speech of the festival, Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh expressed his gratitude to the folklore artists, guests and representatives that have come from all over Asia, and noted that Mongolia aims to become an international destination for nomadic culture and tourism as a part of its Sustainable Development Vision 2030.
He then added that language, history, customs and traditions, heritage and the arts are the immunity of the countries, which makes their uniqueness in the time of globalization, and said that the Government of Mongolia will organize the festival every year and give special attention to promoting the lifestyle, arts and culture of Mongolia and Asia to the world.
The opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports Yo.Baatarbileg, Deputy Minister G.Ganbayar, Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Amarsaikhan, Deputy Governor of Ulaanbaatar city J.Batbayasgalan, Head of the Culture and Arts Authority G.Erdenebat and representatives of the arts and culture sector.
About 1,500 artists from 21 aimags of Mongolia and over 200 folklore artists from 12 countries, such as Malaysia, China, South Korea, Indonesia, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Russia and Kazakhstan, are participating in the folklore championship.
Various performances including Mongolian epics, long song (urtiin duu), throat singing (khuumii), contortion and horse-head fiddle (morin khuur) performances were staged at the opening ceremony, and received high appraisal from the audience. In the framework of the festival, the gala concert and events such as the Asian handicraft fair and exhibition will be open free for the public.
